I grew up in a big oil field town so I know all about this. A lot of my family and friends would have to stay in man camps. It is hard when they have to work out of town so much and need housing. It is the cheapest option.

With the oil boom I can see something like this being extremely valuable to companies. It's a cheaper way to house workers and leave less work for cleanup and tear-down. The more you can reduce those things, the more you can reduce costs and the higher your profits will be. Sounds like rentals are a good way to fund oil extraction. http://www.deranoilfield.ca/en/
